About Us

Located in Syracuse, New York, "La Familia" is a dance performance team specializing in the Cuban styles of Salsa known as Casino, Rueda de Casino (the "Wheel"), Salsa Suelta (Cuban line dance) and Cuban folkloric dances. This 18 member team is comprised of an eclectic group of exuberant and dedicated dancers and dance teachers from all corners of the world including Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Turkey, India, Nigeria, Ukraine, Bulgaria, the Philippines and the USA!!!

What is Rueda de Casino?

Frequently referred to as "Cuban Square Dancing", Rueda de Casino is a wonderful, exciting and exhilarating form of Cuban Salsa dancing and is the preferred method for teaching Salsa in Cuba!!! Leaders and followers are arranged in a circle with a caller telling the dancers what move is coming next via verbal cues and hand gestures. There are approximately 300-400 moves ranging from the simplest to the most complex. Sometimes there is stomping of feet, yelling, hand gestures, clapping etc. making this traditional dance a vivid and exciting spectacle! Rueda is also the most FUN you'll ever have on the dance floor...and that's a promise !!!
